Fuel System Additives
I have drained the tank and have since run 75 miles and still have problems. I am fully draining teh fuel tank tomorrow to get all the old gas out of the car.
My question is this: Is it a bad thing to run fuel system , carb cleaner additives into my 2.2 engine? The bottle says safe for all gasoline engines.
I know a liquid in a bottle wont solve all the problems, but am hoping it helps clean out a system that has sat for too long.
Any input would be great. BTW, the product is made by penzoil and is called fuel system cleaner, and another one is carb/injector cleaner.
I doubt any bottled carb cleaning product will clean out a real gummy system, *totally*. But hell, what do you have to lose?
Some good brands are the aforementioned Techron, Berrymans, and good ol', Gummout. Maybe if you give the system a double dose you might have some luck. These solvents won't do the motor any harm, but they do release a lot of particulates into the oil. Change the oil and filter after the treatments are done.
I do not want to do any harm to this car, after all I am trying to nurse it back to health. I have new oil going in (20w50 this time) and am exchanging the penzoil additive for the chevron brand.
I am slo have two inline fuel filters going on just before the fuel goes into each bank of carbs.
