A Bill of Sale in most cases is enough to deflect the issue. You carry the BOS with you on your return trip home.
I was pulled over in OH on my way back from my purchase, gave him insurance statement faxed to me by the ins. co (I put insurance on the car with the VIN on it before heading out), license, registration from the Taurus SHO to match the plates, explain why I was doing 82 (speedo failed & on the highway home I was going around a guy pulling a snowmobile trailer which was all over the road & right during the pass was the trooper in the median), no ticket, have a nice day.
