That's such an easy thing to do. I would remove the panels to do this the easy way.
First, take the top trim piece off. (It will have two screws,--one at each end)
Remove the screws from the bottom of the side storage compartments. They run along the perimeter of it,--don't forget the ones that also secure the black piece of plastic which is a sort of stop.
Pop up the actual door opener with a screw driver,--reach in an simply pop it upward. The piece is a steel, cadmium plated, with a couple strategic bends in it; it actually is attached to the handle itself.
Remove the allen heads which secure the door grabbing handle. Should be two on the top and two beneath.
Pry off the center cap from the manual door lock and then, using a Philips, remove the central screw. Take that off.
Once all the fasteners are removed you should be able to easily (never force) the pop on parts off by working them off with a flat plastic blade. They run around the perimeter of the panel--and are mostly up the sides. Remove the entire door panel, or at least set it aside,--this way you won't have to deal electrically with removing the speaker wires or the window controls, etc.
You will find a sort of hinge rod inside the heavy part of the door handle, with a retaining circlip or locking washer sort of thing. Pry it up and off so that you can remove the old door handle. Making sure you have the right side handle for the right side, substitute that for the old and reverse all these procedures.
Now go do that for the left side.
This is so easy you'll wonder why you haven't been in there before!
Good luck!

Hi,
I have the same 911. Even the same color!
How did your door handle project go? My passenger map pocket is disconnected from the door handle and needs to be replaced. Any tips?

If you still have the metal rods to the central locks, the new 964 plastic part is $5 a Porsche and swaps out in minutes. I did both sides. If you want to pull the lock out you need the window track and frame and window out of the way..
