Could one or more of you fine people post a picture/s of an '84 thru '89 coupe with the large rubber baby bumpers on the back removed or direct me to a few pix. Also, what is the best way to remove them?
I will not make a move until I see some pix. It just seems the car would look better without them as the eye is directed to the protruding bumps. And one more thing, what is under the bumps?
Thanks all, Mike

What is under the bumperettes is dependent on your car's history. It was/is a painted bumper, but who knows what yours looks like underneath? If your paint's good, it all should polish out.

See? It looks much cleaner. I figure the holes can be plugged with plasic hole pluggie things. This way I look at the car as a whole and not just being directed to the girl bumps. I always thought the bumps looked like an after thought. So, how did you remove em'?
Thanks Ked and Fasteddie

3 nuts holding on each one. reach in between the muffler and the bumper. I didn't even have to take the muffler off. You might need some thing to light the rear lisence plate if that is the law where you are.

There will be a bunch of holes to fill (the two in mine are for the license plate). You can replace it with a fiberglass one but then you'll lose the accordion pieces on the sides, if that bothers you...I was glad to see them go. Here's a larger version of my avatar pic.

I replaced both stock bumpers with Fuchs replica pieces from Getty Design in Riverside, CA. Prolly dropped about 80 pounds and a whole lotta ugly.

I have thought about doing this, or at least going to the smaller euro style bumperettes. the only thing that stops me is the thought that someone would tap me in the *** at low speed...and those ugly black things help out alot in minor rear enders.

from this angle you can see the 3 painted carriage bolts (per side) I used to fill the overrider bolt-holes, the license plate light wiring access holes (w/ blk rubber grommets), the chintzy brushed AL frame I bought for a few $s (until I come across a period one from Brumos, where the car was originally sold), & the even cheaper license plate light (Advance Auto!) I afixed to it (& crooked!). note the blemishes to the paint from material transfer off the back of the overriders. some paint was lost & I touched it up in mediocre fashion. I'll get around to doing it right someday... maybe.

Thank you for the shots Ked. You may have started a trend. It is amazing what a difference it makes, takes out the bulky look. Whats nice? doesn't harm the originality as it is easy to put back.
