Yes, Neil is a fine general-topics automotive journalist, & this is a very good treatment of Porsche (though I recall that Ferry also determined that the post-war marketplace called for a 2+2 design in a sports/GT; for travel, family & room for golf clubs). It is striking that many enthusiasts accentuate the distinctions among various 356/911 models. For us, I suppose it is a case of "the increasing importance of the smaller differences". Having driven many versions over 40 yrs, I agree that there is a basic flavor shared by all, & that to this day it infuses 911 hardware as well as mystique. Quite the accomplishment.
Now, as to the late '80's Carreras... the '87 is by far superior to the '89... simpler in std trim, low-mounted third brake light, etc etc.

The left ignition was retained as Porsche got more into auto racing, e.g., the Le Mans running starts. It's nice to see how 001 will finally have a nice place to rest. I have seen it many times over the years and when you consider that it is the very start of this fine company, it's display conditions have been quite a compromise at best.
