Tire options for a '71 Targa?

This is a very informative forum.
I'd like to post this question if there's
any owners out there with older 911s...
I've had Michelins (185/70 14s) on this car
for a long time but I'm looking to go to a
slightly larger tire (195s or 205s) but still
keep it looking somewhat stock (original).
Any tire recommendations (size & mfg)
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I wouldn't go any further than a 60 series tire on it. Your rims should be 5.5 or 6 inch by 14s and there's not a lot available these days in a 14 inch rim. Do they even make a Pirelli Cinturato tire anymore? That was probably OEM in 1971.

I found 60's for my 14" rims. The lower profile improved handling and acceleration. Later I switched ot 16" Fuchs with 40 series tires for further improvements.
Unfortunately I have not found any Fuchs wider than a 6" rim that will fit properly under the rear fenders.

I bought sumimoto H-rated 205 70R14s. Inexpensive and good tire from tirerack.com
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....e1=yes&place=0
Only issue is that they are a very close fit in the rear and I am still concerned about rubbing issues (I am redoing the torsion bars now to get a better ride height).
If I were to do it again, I would spend the $150 a pop and buy the correct 185HR14s from coker.

A middle of the road option is the 195 75 R14, however, there are no performance tires in that size. edit: typo fixed.

Edit: I should add I have a 1971 911T Targa as well.
