Post MSD box and heat

Hi,
My mechanic told me that the MSD box couldnt stand the heat and installed it in the "backseat".
The thing is that the box is producing a whining sound and I would like to move it to the engine compartment.

Best regards

Anders

I do not have one on my porsche however I did install one on a 78 vette I once owned. I mounted it on the fender well as far away from the engine as possible, as older corvettes are extremely hot in the engine compartment. I did not have any problems with the unit in all the years I owned the car.

Hi Anders:

I install these in the engine compartment of most cars without any problems. In some race cars, I will put them inside the car but that's the exception, not the rule.

If an MSD box is properly mounted with the anti-vibration standoffs and wired-grounded correctly, you'll not have any problems.

The last thing I'll mention is that an MSD requires an MSD matching coil to prevent failures. These ignition boxes must have the proper impedance coil to work as advertised and not draw excessive current. I use either the MSD High-Vibration Blaster coil or the HVC ones.

Hi!
Thanks for your answers.
I will move the box to get rid of the annoying whining sound.
I have more than enough of that in my car.

The mechanics from the Hamburg based Porsche dealer Raffay where more than happy to help me during the last session at the Nürburgring. I think they where bored with changing oil on new Boxsters.
A couple of days at the Nürburgring is verry good to sort out a car. I have found some things that has to be fixed.
These pictures where taken during the last visit.
