Post Alpine Alarm Gurus help, new 88 911 owner (A8426a)

Friends, I have just picked up an 88 911 and the prior owner had an
alpine 8426a (written on the back of the keypad) alarm installed 2 years ago. I have a few questions:

1- What protection do I most likely have? (ignition cutoff, fuel
e.t.c.?)
2- I am bewildered by this, but my car has the factory cetnral locking
system yet the alarm was not configured to
trigger them...can I have this alarm connected to
them?
3- Is it a decent unit, or should I have it taken out in favor of a
newer one?
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Frank

You have quoted the remote control model number. What you really need is the brain model number. I have a 1992 model Alpine 8040 in my '87 Targa. The value of these alarms is really a function of the quality of the installer. Here is what I know from my preliminary research:

1) These alarms have a radar motion sensor which interferes with K-band reception on radar detectors

2) They can be configured to activate the central locking on a Porsche(mine is)

3) They have a starter cut-off wire which can be traced from the alarm brain and an ignition cut off. Look at your brain and look for the wire leading back to the engine compartment and look at your ignition switch harness for signs of modification. These alarms can also be configured to cut off the fuel pump using a relay to the fuse box.

4) The Alpine website lists a company where you can buy the manual and spares (www.pacparts.com) but you need the brain serial number to access the right parts list

Love to hear anyone elses experience/input!
