Default Looked at an '85 today, strange color?

It was a sunroof coupe, 135K miles, nice shape but what a color! My best description would be copper-maroon metalic. The interior was more maroon than any thing else. The owner claimed it was an original color combo. I've never seen it, could he be correct? Bob Asking $15k

Porsche has made many many interesting colours, it very well might be the original colour.

Porsche did, and still does paint to sample for buyers. That could be something really off the wall, or a color out of their old playbooks, and as we all know, they've had a lot of colors over the years.

Look on the right front fender in the trunk for the paint code. That will tell you what it is.

Around that time Porsche produced a special metallic color known in German as "Granatrot." Paint no. S2 S2. There was also a Muskatbraun metallic (S1S1). Also, there was Z7 Cognacbraunmetallic and U6 Samtrotmetallic. Later, in 1992, they introduced Metallic Amethyst (F9) which may be what you have seen. Get a shot of it and I might be able to recognize it.

I suppose that color shouldn't matter so much, the car is nice, solid with no leaks. It's been maintained but no new cliutch, no timing chain upgrade, just brakes and oil changes. It drives well, no issues, and it's in town. If it was red or black or silver, it would already be in my driveway. Bob (The copper tint doesn't show in these photos as the sun was shaded)

Bob,

Make sure you do enjoy the colour or it will grow on you. I know colour is not suppose to be as important as the mechanics but you should still like the colour. Also, what happened to the fuchs?
