Default track rims for my SC

I'm really confused about what rims will fit my '81 SC. I have Fuchs 6s & 7s X 16. I need a set of track rims but on my budget I can't get another set of Fuchs. what else will fit and what spacers will I need to get the proper fit.
please help a newbie. thanks

Look for a good set of BBS like in my Avatar. Not cheap, but definitely less than Fuchs.

Rota Fox? Apparently some people have been taking those on the track.

I know you're on a budget (man do I know about this!!), but rims for track use is one of those areas you really need to be careful about as a failure here could be catastrophic to the car and/or you. Not to mention adding adapters (not really "spacers" as adapters have studs and bolt to the hubs) is another cost and hassle

That said, some good reasonably priced options that I would consider strong and "proven" are Fuchs and BBS. Yeah, I know you said no F's, but you can get a set of four 7x16s (you can run 205/225) for pretty cheap if they are cosmetically challenged.

Or, look for a set of BBS one-piece. The 3-piece ones are great (I have them like Ed), but will be on the pricey side. But the 1-piece BBS come up on ebay (or the various boards) pretty regularly, and will come in considerably less than Fuchs. Both of these also will have the right offset so fit is right on. Have patience ...best of luck!

I agree with Ed on this subject. You do not want to scrimp on track wheels as you are betting your life on them. I too prefer the BBS Motorsport 3 piece wheels as they are versatile and can be built to different widths and diameters. If not BBS Motorsport, go for Fuchs or BBS rims. Once in a while, you can get deals on some 3 piece wheels from other manufacturers such as Kinesis/Fikse/FRH. These are what I'm running on my turbos.

As for the Rotas, I'd be very hesitant about them as I have not had good luck with them. They are beautiful wheels, but are relatively heavy and quality control is suspect. I've had 2 sets with runout issues varying from .005 to .035 out of round. Runout was primarily in the .025 - .035 range. Not good for a brand new wheel, worse for something you want to run on the track.

If you are tracking the car, consider the unpsrung weight of wheels and the effect that has on
handling, response, tossability, tire wear....
Unfortunately, the really light wheels that keep your unsprung weight down, are also expensive, as opposed to the cup wheel repros etc that are cheap but made of cast aluminum and are anchors.
Not surprisingly, fuchs wheels are still some of the lightest out there [sans carbon fiber wheels], at around 16-17 lbs each. The next closest are the Fikse FM-5 and BBS.

As stated above, the track is not the place to use your cheapo wheels the street is.

Hope this helps,

Nick

You can often find a set of fuchs on eBay for pretty cheap, especially ones that have scratches and minor curb rash.

Call CCW and tell them what you have and what you want to do and they will build wheels that fit for a price that is relatively inexpensive. I think my last wheels (9x17,11.5x17) were $2500.00

BBS wheels either one piece or three piece. Superlight have a panasport/minilight wheel you can use or go with a set of four seven inch wheels with spacers for the rear wheels. Like others have said - don't scrimp on track wheels - probably the most important safety device you have.

Keep your eyes on the classifieds. If you can go the CCW direction they know what you need, great service. Be careful on the Rota's not really a track wheel. Research Forged wheels.
