Anybody have any experience with hooking up an 80's third/center brake light into a 70's 911 Coupe electrical system?
I have this nagging suspicion that when I take my 1977 911S to get its first Mass. state inspection next week, they are going to tell me I need to hook up the 3rd brake light attached to the replacement rear interior panel I put in even though the '77 never originally had one.

Correct, but I'm anticipating there being a discussion going something like "well, if you have the light, it has to work".
And my car subsequently failing inspection despite my protests relating to the light not being part of the original car.

yeah, that seems to be the solution of choice.
i can take that panel out without much fuss and then no one is the wiser.
on the flip side, lets say hypothetically i wanted the third light attached to my rear panel to actually function. anyone know how that would go?

If, hypothetically, you wanted to get a third brake light you might find some inspiration in this Pelican Parts BBS thread.
