Post Active Gearbox

Just what does it mean when someone describes a transmission as "..fully active.." as in the context of a racing transmission. Thanks

Hi:

A fully Active transmission is a gearbox that has 1st gear as part of the usuable gearstack.

This means that 1st gear is raised to match the other gear ratios so that the driver can use it in slow corners on the track; not just for leaving the pits.

This results in truly having a real 5-speed (or 6-speed) transmission. The difference in lap times between a non-active 5-speed and a fully-active 5 speed is usually 3-4 seconds per lap and on some tracks with tight corners, even more.

Hope this helps,

There was a discussion of this on Pelican, <a href="http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=82560" target="_blank">here</a>.
