Strip to help finance.
What if I was going to strip my car out to drop weight. Is there anything besides my new AC compressor that I could sell? I have heard of people selling parts to help them finance builds...is this possible?
Anyone wanna buy a guitar?
You can probably get some coin for stock parts you are upgrading. Items like torsion bars, calipers, seats..etc. But what can you really ditch in your car besides A/C? The carpet? Spare tire maybe....I can't think of too much.

Well it was a thought. I guess I am trying to lesson fall of the slope I am fixing to slide down.

The Best Porsche Posts for Porsche Enthusiasts
If you pay attention, you may find that the 82 and 83 SC are close in price to the early Carerra, and reading the trouble shooting posts here, the SC appears to be more trouble free. I think it will exceed the Carrera in coming years because it is less complex and more dependable/bullet proof.
NOTE: Peter Zimmerman owns a 1982SC.
Keep the stuff and if you decide to make a wrong decision and sell it, It will bring a LOT more money with the original stuff with it. A $2000 miata may be a better choice for madness.
This has to be two unique issues. One is get the car running. the second is put the car on a diet. I never do two things at once if I don't have to. (mental thing) As soon as they become one in the same projects you will start cutting corners and loose focus on what is really important. What is your primary goal? Is it a lean car or a working car? I'd start with working. Anybody can strip out an interior and take parts off, but what is that really gonna do for you? Fix the drivetrain and it will feal like a brand new ride when all is said and done.
To me, (besides a 930) the ultimate Porsche is a narrow body 911 with a built 3.4/3.6. Stripped out to nothing but what it needs to get down the road. No carpets, sound proofing, no head liner, etc, etc....
Jake....I would much rather have a Bay/Flats Boat than a miata. I laugh everytime I here someone here say miata...I mean yeah its a good car, but if I did not have a 911 as a 3rd vehicle...I would not want any other car. Period.
For ME there is no such thing as "another" sports car, other than a Porsche.
Bottom line, like I stated earlier...If I am going to spend a pretty penny on my car (good posibility), and I dont plan on selling it....why not make it to what I want? Which reminds me.....gotta tell the wife to add to my will..."super glue hands to steering wheel and bury him with his car".
How committed are you to NEVER selling? Yeah, I know I know, everyone says "she's a keeper" but is she really? If there is even a sliver of a snowball's chance, then don't strip AND sell, and don't do anything you can't readily reverse or you will face radically depreciated value.
BUT, if you are committed to keeper status, then I would do:
- AC and ALL plumbing (this is good for ~60 lbs IIRC)
- windshield washer system and plumbing
- engine sound pad
- the interior (seats, carpet, panels, center console, and sound deadening ...have fun with that last one)
Nothing noted will get you much money. Driver/Pass seat as a pair can get you some dough if they're in good shape, and black is most valuable. Center console is also worth a bit as lots of those break over the years and folks want that replaced. But carpets/seats/panels ...ugh! You'd be lucky if someone just wants the whole shebang ...and black is your best bet.
FWIW, I did all the above, but left the OEM bumpers as I want the safety. With a DAS Sport rollbar, I believe I am at about 2525 lbs w/gas sans me ...not too shabby

I will have to admit though...I do feel bad sometimes thinking that I might destroy a perfectly good car to strip out. Wonder if there is a work in progresss trade out there that I would not feel so guilty about butchering?
On the other hand...look what Wachuko did with his perfect looking 83SC.
I dont plan on cutting any steel panals, so why should I feel bad about gutting it out.
