I am currently looking at an '88 3.2 Targa - are there any specific issues associated with a low mileage car of 21k miles? Thanks for your help.

Gerry
Gerry: If you can verify that those very low miles have been spread out over the car's 20-years, then that's great. I would think that this car comes with a file that will show, amongst other things, A/C maintenance (probably every 2-3 years), brake fluid changes (probably every 4-5 years), brake hose replacement (at the 10-year point), oil changes, a major maintenance at 15K miles, tire replacement (at least once), etc. If the car doesn't have those records watch out, an extreme level of deferred maintenance (read $thousands$) could be just around the corner (the one that you drive through on the way home after picking up the car)!

If the car's records are good, but a long period (1+ year) of no use shows up, look out for accident damage that required a long body shop visit to repair.

Yes, there are definitely hazards associated with buying a car like this one - be very, very careful, and hire absolutely the best technician that you can find to do the PPI.

Just a quick note to add to my above post (#18) - be sure to check out Jim Schrager's article in the August '08 edition of Excellence magazine.

Pete, if you haven't seen it, take a look at the "Porsche 911 purchase" thread when you get a chance...I couldn't find your excellent PPI info to direct them to.
