Movie for me too, "No Man's Land" (http://www.amazon.com/No-Mans-Land-D.../dp/B00007EFIK), even bought it on VHS. When I was in college I valet parked and drove my first 911, an SC, and while to that point I thought Porsches were cool, after that drive I KNEW I had to have one someday.

This has bothered me:
What was the Porsche that William Hurt drove in The Big Chill movie?
What Porsche does Holly Hunter drive in the Saving Grace television show?
I've done a search and can't find the answer.

Thanks. It seems like it must have been a LWB small bumper 911T?
I wouldn't have guessed a 930? It looked more like a late 80's Carrera to me. But I'll admit that I was also distracted by the tight jeans.

When I graduated from college in 1972, I bought myself a bright orange, year-old 914 1.7. I also picked up a brochure at the dealership, and this image was in it. BTW, I have the early Carrera 3.0 version of that tail (sans extra vent) in my shop, waiting to be painted and installed on my '88 Carrera.

I just saw No Man's Land for the first time last night on Encore Action channel. Although far from a masterpiece this movie has more late 70's and 80's 911's( or Porsche's for that matter) than probably any other movie ever made. Real treat to see them in their 1980's glory.
I just saw that for the first time as well. Very intense. Really good scenes of 911s in action, as well as the heavy duty plot. Two thumbs up.

For me, it was seeing them in "the flesh". When I was 13, my across-the-street neighbor was a master mechanic. He would work on 356s. Very meticulous. When they were ready for a test drive, he'd have me hop in the passenger seat. My most vivid memories are of the smell (gas, oil and leather) and that SOUND. I liked the nimbleness of the cars, but was not impressed with their power. Then one day he took me for a shakedown run in a 911T. It was white, with a black interior. My visual impression was that it looked like a race car you could drive on the street. How cool is that? Ever since that moment, I wanted a 911. It was 35 years before I got one. Now I have two. I owe it all to Andy Cisternino, who went on to be a mechanic for several Indy car teams.

I worked @ a body shop in high school. Aside from all of the junk that came through there, I had the opportunity to do some work on an orange 914. It was the coolest car I had seen up close and gotten to work on.
I knew I had to be a Porsche owner. Then I saw my first 911 and never looked back.

In most movies, the 911 is a status symbol in the bad sense of the term -- usually an easy mark for a villain or a jerk. The beat-up old longhood Targa that William Hurt drove in The Big Chill made me look at owning a 911 in a different way. That thing had real character.
