Image That Got You Started ?

Movie for me too, "No Man's Land" (http://www.amazon.com/No-Mans-Land-D.../dp/B00007EFIK), even bought it on VHS. When I was in college I valet parked and drove my first 911, an SC, and while to that point I thought Porsches were cool, after that drive I KNEW I had to have one someday.

I've been around them all my life, so not one image, but everything about them. The looks, smells, sounds, the feeling in my neck each time I twist around just to see one drive by. The idea that
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE! If I had to pick one, it would be the BRUMOS 1973 RSR that won Daytona.

I remember back in 1974 a test report by Motor Trend about a Porsche 2.7 with a duck tail. I can remember the car being blue in the test report and it had the Carrera in black on the side. I was 16 or 17 and just fell in love with it. Then later on the 930 Turbo coming out.

For me, it wasn't so much an image as it was an impression. I was 16, just got my drivers license and my neighbor came over, "Hey, I heard you passed your driver's test, come on over, I'll let you drive my car..." It was a 1970 Porsche 912.... I was sold. (Same color as pictured.)

One of the neighbors bought a new 1978 911SC, it was Guards Red with no tail. Absolutely beautiful. I can rememeber waiting for this car to come by my house. The sound was glorious and I had to have one. Cant remember the year exactly (maybe 1979), but I was looking at a car mag and came across this "Grey Market" 930.
It was the color of this one...
Ever since the late seventies I knew that one day I would have one.

It wasn't so much pictures for me, although I always loved when they were in Road & track.
As a kid, when I was at the track on weekends playing with my own car, I would go hang out behind the 911s while they were tuning and warming up.
The sound, oh that sound like no other.
Then to see these guys fly out of corners like they were shot from a gun.
I was hooked.

When I graduated from college in 1972, I bought myself a bright orange, year-old 914 1.7. I also picked up a brochure at the dealership, and this image was in it. BTW, I have the early Carrera 3.0 version of that tail (sans extra vent) in my shop, waiting to be painted and installed on my '88 Carrera.
