Default LED Brake Lights

Concours Guys close your eyes.

I just replaced my Brake Lights to the RED 5 Watt Luxeon LEDs 1157 .

Wow, what a gratifying upgrade. They are much brighter than the OEM and angle of view is perfect. It reportedly will last much longer and draws less current but just enough to keep the OEM specs from bleeding low level of current to cause a glow when ignition is on and lights off compared to standard LEDs.

If interested you can get them at www.superbrightleds.com (no affilation).

For Safety Sake,

Jim

Jim, thanks for the link - a few questions:
  • Do the RED 5 Watt 1157 Luxeon LEDs require a load resistor to flash correctly?
  • Did you also upgrade the 1156 and side marker bulbs? (see below)
  • How much brighter than the stock bulbs are the LEDs?
  • Any photos of your finished project?

Thanks

No, no need for a load resistor to flash correctly.

No, I opted to keep OEM 1156, but others have updated theirs.

How much brighter? I don't know the actuall specs but my un-educated observation is the Luxeon is 2 times brighter. I believe the lumens are posted with superbrightsled.com.

I will post it shortly

Here are some pics from my cell:

Brakes OFF ( that is not a glow from the lenses, it is a reflection of day light )

Brakes ON

Unlike the standard LEDs, it completely fills the brake light housing with light.

BTW, the Luxeons are brighter than the third LED light as well.

Draco,
When you said "OFF", do you still see lights? I do. Is it the sun reflex on the lenses?
What is your address? Don't cry when you wake up and don't your new LEDs

The first pic is reflection of day light. Lights remain off with the ignition turned to on postion.

Hey Rnln, if I catch you, I am going to shoot with 300 Paint ***** in 10 seconds at point blank range. You leave my new LEDs alone You!

Mine was in direct florida sunlight - they look very similiar to yours under cover - filling out the entire brake light.

Nope, you will need to ad the blue dot to the lens I did on my Harley. But I know that set up would be illegal especial on a passanger vehicle. I only rode on weekends and in the canyons so very litle chance of being pulled over.

BTW Jeremy, is yours the Luxeon LEDs?

I tried them all, Autozone Special (POS), SuperBrightLEDS's 30 bulb wide Standard LEDs (Bright) but they all leaked and did not illuminate the entire housing like the Luxeons.
