Default A Visitor

I had a visitor today. The iceman (Clive) wanted to see the self-alignment process. Mr Self-Alignment Pro (that’s me) managed to strip a front height adjusting bolt 30 minutes before he arrived. Yeah, a dumbass move. I used the adjusting torsion bar end screw hole (did you get all that?) as a pry point when it wouldn’t come out easily. I must have burred it slightly & that started the screw haywire & by the time my dumbass brain kicked in, it was too late . . .

Anyway, we inspected it all & I did a pantomime alignment for him. And we talked DIY. We should do garage visits more often – except when dumbass is in the building . . .

And I remembered to pay him the $100 I owed him for a Hershey find.

And the search has begun for an adjusting screw. $37.25 from Pelican. Plus shipping. Plus border abuse & taxes. It nevers stops.

On the plus side, my short drive with Elephant PolyBronze front bushings (at the wrong ride height - seriously low) proved to me that they are no noisier than stock rubber. I would say a slightly improved 'feel' factor for side to side low speed 'tire warmup' sequence. I like them. I did the ball joints too btw so that factors in but overall more surgical in handling.

Anyways, nice to see you Clive . . .

150.00 for two rear alignment bolts on the 928 a couple of years ago. Too much anti-seize. I was able to washer out one bolt to good threads and use a new nut, as a temporary fix. Good luck with the search.

I am shooting for local if I can find one at a reasonable cost. I want it done & back on the road. At least the brakes worked - rebuilt caliper & complete bleed; the clutch worked - bled slave; the CV boots are all good - replaced another 2. And the EBs as above.

With my work sched & this car work = no time. Off for 5 days of southern sin in Nawlins Wed for The Pot Luck pro audio show. Happy hour starts at 4:30 . . .

Ian

btw keep your eyes open for a 911 in the 20 - 30 range. A new looker in Toronto - Mike - contacted me & he is sniffing around for a decent one. No prerequisites except he is thinking G50. I will encourage him to post.

Oh & a tidbit for Canucks. The castellated nut on the bottom of the strut requires a special wrench. Parts Source rents a kit with the proper socket for 1/2 drive. And it is a FREE rental. You pay for the kit in full & you are credited in FULL on return. Can't beat that. It wouldn't help for removal since you have to beat on it but perfect for reinstallation.

Success! $50 for the bolt & the adjusting cap. Brent @ Hunter. Pfaff was $46 & 4-5 days just for the bolt.
