I have run across a part out of a '82 sc and am dickering for the complete eng and trans. HIgh miles and it does not run. The owner bought the car to complete the 82 that they have so they did not drive it, or hear it run. The engine is in the car so a leak down can be done and a spin compression test also, do not know if it has oil fed tensioners. With the assumption that the pistons are worn under size, the cams need grinding, and the crank is under size or has lines, and the trans is a complete unknown, what is top dollar that I should be looking at for these cores?
We have an '83 and at some point i would like to get another one. We currently have a spares of a VERY worn '82 engine(complete) and maybe a good trans.

Well my .02 "With the assumption that the pistons are worn under size, the cams need grinding, and the crank is under size or has lines, and the trans is a complete unknown". I would not expect to get more that $1200-1300 engine, and if T/A needs total rebuid $600-$650. This is about as bad as it get's, I seriously doubt the engine is that bad, 'BUT'. SC's have been know to go 400K +.

If they need to be rebuilt then all you have to do is decide how much more your budget will allow you to spend over the cost of the rebuilds. You could also inquire with places that sell used engines/trans and ask what they give for cores in similar condition.
