I would like to get rid of my old air filter box, and have it it replaced with some sort of filter element like a the K&N system for Webber carbs. My engine is a 2.4 MFI engine.
Thanks for the input
Stay with the standard item it's the best for road use . There are several threads , particularly on Pelican Parts site regarding this issue with one particularly alarming story about oil filtered induction systems . Racing is a different ball game , engines get rebuilt frequently with new internals to replace worn ones . The concerns about fitting K&N type filters (though not those in particular) surround their effectiveness at blocking minute abrasive paricles from the engine's internals .
Back in the 70's I used to run two stroke road bikes and a race bike wih with K&N filters , but they all were maintained with frequent engine strip downs as that was then part of the 'joys' of owning generally fragile and temperemental two strokes . Still think two strokes are the way to go for ultimate performance from small displacements .Ultimately it's your choice , I would say K&N are the most tried and tested item .
Although its possible to fit individual aircleaners (ITG) like the Weber and PMO installations use, your engine really makes more HP on the dyno with the OEM airbox.
All the separate ones do is sound better and look nice.
Stick with the factory airbox for best HP and just install a K&N element with well greased ends. You can get rid of the air intake heating system for max power, if you have not already done so. Some folks added a custom intake bell instead of the plastic elbow.
Don't I need the air intake heating system for the winter? It can get below Zero here in Northern California. I was just asking about the intake system so I can make the engine look cleaner and less cluttered, not so much make more power, though that is always a good side effect. Were can I find these filters? I am just doing this out of curiosity
Thanks
