While reading this thread I sent Mobil 1 a question from their contact page. I asked about the zinc level in their 15-50 oil. I asked for a seperate answer on the gold cap and on the silver cap. I told them I'm asking because I can only find the phosphorus level in there table and not the zinc level. This is there answer to my email.

The zinc levels and phos levels are in the same range for both products,
about 1300ppm.

Excellent news. My car was fed red cap Mobil1 for many years so it's good news that the new formulation meets the standards(at least for zinc). Anybody interested in a VOA if I buy some to put in the car this weekend? Any recommended VOA vendors that are cheap (my dog just pulled a surprise E Coli attack so short term budget is a bit tight). It would be my way of contributing back to the group after lurking for so long and skimming info when needed.

Edward: I forgot to mention, when I ran my PCA car (Willow, Vegas, etc.) I did switch from GT1 to Mobil 1 (based on the then stories about dino oils foaming at high revs/temps), and I must say that I did not notice a single bit of difference between the two. There was zero change in oil pressure, oil temperature, warm-up phase pressures and temps, appearance of the oil (hot) on the dipstick - nothing. Of course, that was then, and dino Kendall was still the PA crude based product, and M1 was the most common synthetic. Today's formulations are definitely different, but since '05 more and new anti-wear ingredients have found their way into oil, and they're supposed to be very good. If they're as good as ACEA approved, non - ILSAC GF-4 oils, time will tell.

About today's M1 15W/50 not being approved by ACEA, that's probably because Mobil will probably not benefit from the testing (someone on this thread posted about the expense involved, which is probably correct). Euro manufacturers, although very strict about oils, have gone to lighter weights (P-cars use 0W/40 in their water-pumpers), and a few people have told me that that M1's 5W/50 synthetic (which has an SM rating and a host of ACEA approvals) is more a "world-wide" oil for them.

I guess, Edward, in thinking about this more, if your Trackmeister sees a lot of track use (my SC does not go there) it might be worth considering Brad-Penn's semi-syn 20W/50. Steve W. recommends it highly, and he certainly has more contemporary experience with these matters than I do. Believe me, I have no intention to confuse, and if I have I apologize. My earlier comments regarding the SC didn't fully consider if your SC does excessive track duty.

Thanks, Pete. I really appreciate your thoughts on this. Yeah, since my SC is a track car driven on streets only occasionally, then perhaps the BP would be more prudent. Thanks for taking the time to chime in again! ...I guess I will press forward on getting some locally
