Default 1972 911 slant

I am looking at a 1972 911 slant nose. The car has been sitting " for some time". Looks ok in the pics but I have yet to get by for a closer look. The owner claims the VIN is 9111113391, and a pic of a data plate had 2410-L stamped on the first of two areas. Claims 20K miles, looks fairly orgn so far. Could anyone provide some insight on value, is this vin valid, and could this be a gray market car.

Thanks All,
Duane

Duane, that's a '71 vin, for a USA market 911T. There was no slant nose until in the '80s, so it is far from "original". Claims of low mileage are often made... proving it is another matter entirely - the little numbers displayed in the odometer do not qualify as proof. Its value is impossible to estimate given the paucity of information. A clean, straight, unrusted (& these cars love the rust), unmolested, good running order long-nose T can be worth over $20K, but the car as you describe it does not meet those criteria. If you are really smitten, educate yourself & hire a pro to examine the car - with you at his side. Good luck!

911 X N NNNNN Model is the 911, X is the year (e.g., 1971 would be 1), N would be the body style,--I recall a 1 to be a Targa, and NNNNN is the sequential body number. As ked states, the VIN you cite is a 1971. As a 1972, it is the only 911 with an oil filler flap on the right rear fender. (It was removed for the MY73 cars because of too many gas-jockeys trying to fill the oil tank with gas...). If it's a slant nose it was something considerably aftermarket. You pay, in that era, for originality. That car is nothing like original. if it were truly a 1972 911 with only 20,000 miles on it you discovered it too late. Someone already screwed it up bolting/welding the slope nose on it.
