Default 996 or 997

I am new here and to the Porsche world, but I guess there may be others who are also interested in what body designations go with which model. For example, I have a 2004 C4S, which I think is a 996 body, but it may well be a 997 -- ???
Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Your '04 C4S is definitely a 996, but it could have been built after the start of 997 (MY '05) production. Porsche has been know to take more orders than they can build in any one model year, and just keep on building a particular car for that year, into the next model year run, until all the orders are filled. In order to satisfy engineering changes and any new model year regulations, the reverse can't happen; i.e. the building of an '05 car to sell as an '04.

I believe they were building 996 C4S's as 05 model year cars until the 997 C4S came out. You might be better served to post on the 996 or 997 forum.

Cheers

Correct, you could buy an '05 C4S, or an '05 Turbo S, but, like you said, both would have been 996 bodied cars. Like the 1998 993, which was a carryover from '97, after the first 996 production was delayed...

I think that I confused myself in the above post, or maybe not...

The C4S you have is a 996,--the 997 series didn't introduce the 4 wheel drive versions until MY06. And they were a little late in the MY for that.
