Question SC question: Which was Porsche's darkest brown exterior?

I've been looking for a used SC, and I just found a great candidate. It's a 1983 SC coupe with 170,000 miles that's been regularly maintained by someone who has owned--and currenly owns--multiple Porsches. I've talked to the owner, and he clearly knows his stuff. His '83 SC reportedly includes Carrera-era tensioners, airbox pop-off valve, turbo-spec tie-rods, original Fuchs wheels, and all paperwork. I've checked the CARFAX, and it's way more detailed than any other SC or 3.2 I've checked out over the past month. I'm scheduled to see it later this week when work permits.

The car has a black interior, and an exterior that "presents as black but for close inspection". The car is, in fact, a dark, dark brown apparently. The owner wasn't sure of the paint name or color code (he can give that to me later when he gets home; he did mention he thought it was a factory color), so I thought I'd throw the question out to Rennlist for some instant gratification.

What is the darkest (almost black) brown available for a 1983 911 SC?

My initial guess is Mocha Brown, based upon an initial websearch and Adrian Streather's fine SC Companion (2005).

Please include pixs of one if possible!

Without going to my reference material (sales literature from the period) I generally recall the Mocha Brown as a very dark solid (non-metallic) brown. In the solids, the next lighter was the Cockney brown, and earlier still, and lighter, was Sepia. Cockney was around 76-78, with Sepia in the 1974-5 range. Mocha was on the SC cars--1978 into the early 1980s,--maybe as late as 1982.

Iceman,

It's hard to tell the different shades of brown from the glasurit website.

Here is a thread from Pelican with some photos of light/dark brown 911's.

Looks like Mocha is one of the darkest.

Thanks for the replies. I'm starting to get intrigued that none of the browns I've been able to research online appear black enough given the seller's description. I'll definitely check the paint code closely when I look the car over.

Until then, I'll consider the following possibilities:
(1) The car is simply browner than the seller stated. Holy Togo!
(2) The car is simply Mocha Brown. Hard to tell by online pictures just how dark it is.
(3) The car could sport a code 099, which would have been based upon a customer-supplied sample.
(4) The car was painted in a Porsche factory color not offered as standard on 1983 911 SCs (e.g., Mocha Black found on 924s).
