Default Bardahl 'Engine Stop Leak' - safe for 911?

my 2.4E engine leaks... like many 911 engines.

now I don't have time or money to make a gasket(s) change on the engine

I got a can of Bardahl 'Engine Stop Leak' to stop oil spill. A friend told me it seems to work.

I consider trying it - but will it weaken the abilities of my engine oil (20w-50 Duckhams classic Q Mineral) and thus risk excessive wear or failure on engine when driving with the additive in a 911??

Thanks in advance for any qualified advice.

My opinion is this... I'd much rather live with leaks than put anything other than motor oil in my engine. If it leaked so bad that I didn't feel comfortable driving it, I would choose not to drive it.

I have used seal restorers in the past, that supposedly soften rubber seals and cause gaskets to swell up, but never an oil thickener, and never in a 911.

I would be inclined to say that I feel comfortable using these products in cars of a more disposable nature, that are less costly to rebuild. You would be better off trying to locate the precise causes of your leaks. Some are easy to fix. Some less so.

I would not recommend such things for these engines.

If the leaks bother you, I'd suggest dealing with them as you can afford to do so,...

My Mechanic recommends that you put oil in an engine.....................that's all.

Thanks all! I'll tuck away the Bardahl can then. Oil spill is excessive at 7000 rpm, so I better keep revs down a bit until problem fixed

Where is it leaking? If oil return tubes, it is not very expensive.

Oil spill excessive at 7,000 rpm? How do you measure that leakage at that rpm while driving it? Is that an assumption? I know you don't set at idle and then go to 7,000 rpm in the driveway. By all means, do not put anything other than oil in that air-cooled engine. If you do, the chances of it clogging up passageways and causing major damage are enhanced. Then your leaks will be considered minimal after you have to rebuild it. My recommendation is to fix the problem leaks and not create new and more catastrophic problems. Listen to the experts. I have listened and taken advice from these guys for years and my 88 Carrera runs like a finely oil machine. Good luck.
