Those wheels look like 8s on the rear of the car. Have fun with the car and get the pop off valve and chain tensioners before anything else. Come out to meet other Porsche owners on Saturday. (Unfortunately, I'm sick so I won't make it.)

I know it was kinda stupid of me to buy the car like that. Well, fingers crossed. The dealer said they took it to a nearby Porsche mechanic and got it checked out and everything was good and solid, so I'm hoping they were telling the truth. Monday I'm taking it to a mechanic though, and having everything checked out. I'm ordering all the recommended books as we speak, as well as the tune up kit from pelican parts and the CIS pop off valve. I want to order an aftermarket muffler, but I'm holding off for now. I'm going to order the turbo lower valve covers and those recommended parts once I take it to a mechanic (gotta make sure it doesn't already have them), and in a paycheck or so I'll get the chain tensioners. Oh, I'm also ordering a locking car cover and wheel locks, but does anyone have a recommendation for a car alarm, or other safety items? I'm kinda paranoid that someone's going to steal my car now

I haven't seen much about car alarms on the forum. Most of what I recall reading are problems that people have had with poorly installed or poorly functioning systems giving them headaches. If I were concerned with theft, rather than allowing someone (possibly a complete hack) to cut up my wiring to put in an alarm, I would get in the habit of pulling the fuel pump relay and taking it with me every time I parked the car. An extra 10 seconds when parking, but worth it to assuage my concern. It wouldn't address the issue of breaking into the car initially since there'd be no alarm, but the potential thief couldn't drive the car off (unless he's a real professional and comes to work prepared with a relay).
Good luck with the post-purchase inspection. I bought my 1978 with 44,000 miles with no pre-purchase inspection. Like you I had to have it, now, before anyone else scooped me. I was on pins and needles until I had it inspected and I had gone through my first valve adjustment. Compression checked out OK, and I didn't find any broken head studs upon my first valve adjustment. I've now put 10,000 miles on it over 3.5 years, and it's been brilliant. I've been warned that head studs tend to break when a low mileage car is put into more routine service (Rust weakens the studs, and they give way.). Time for another valve adjustment right now. Hopefully no head studs fall out from under the valve covers when I remove them.

Yeah, I'm going to ask the mechanic to see if it has the turbo valve covers and updated chain tensioners, and if it doesn't have them, then I'll buy them.
Thanks for the tip on pulling the fuel pump relay. And so far the car as run like a dream, so I'm kinda optomistic about the inspection, but Monday I'll find out and let you guys know how it turns out. Even if it turns out 100% okay, I'm going to get a full tune up in about two weeks, I figure better safe than sorry.
By the way, could you guys direct me to any "introduction to a Porsche 911" websites? This car has a learning curve to it, it took me a few minutes to figure out how to open the trunk and the hood ha ha. It's definitely a bit different than my BMW was !

All that info is needed as it is on military installation so they need everyone's ID... PCAH needs all the info by April 30.

Well, I took it to scott this morning and he checked it out, pretty much as thorough as can be without tearing the engine apart, including a test drive, on a lift, etc, and he said it looks great. The car is really clean inside and out, even the undercarriage is clean, and he seemed really surprised that the car leaks absolutely no oil whatsoever, apparently a few drops here and there is the norm. But anyways, he said it looks great and drives great, so I'll be ordering my carrera chain tensioners and turbo lower valve covers within the next day or two. One interesting thing about the car is that the heat has been removed, completely. Well, the way I see it, that means there's no need for the heat exchangers anymore, so it's my way of justifying headers
But yeah, a nice healthy car complete with stainless braided brake lines and a few other little toys already on it. Woohoo!

After reading all the posts and everything, I've decided not to get one. My car runs perfectly, and I plan on keeping it running like this. It does not have the valve.
