Hebrewhomeboy - This sounds like a great car at a great price!! Good for you. Right away you'll want to do the following upgrades (do not wait):
1. Carerra style chain tensions
2. Pop-off valve for airbox
3. Spring centered clutch (replaced from the original rubber style)
Turbo tie rods are a nice preformance enhancer with minimal work, but are not crucial.
If these 3 crucial items are not upgraded you will most likely experience many problems with the 911sc. However, if these common upgrades are preformed the car will drive for hundreds of thousands of miles only requiring regular service...

Just an FYI: read about the pop-off valve in this and the pelican boards. I did the same when I got my SC years ago. I found that more than a few highly-qualified opinions did not see the need for this in a properly tuned CIS car. FWIW, I've now had my SC now for several years and never had a hiccup that led me to think a pop-off was necessary "insurance."

Hey, thanks for all the replies with useful stuffs in them
I'm buying the book tomorrow morning, and probably any others I can get my hands on. I tried carfaxing it, and of course the VIN is too old so carfax doesn't work. I do think the paint job is a respray, I've seen a few signs of it, but still it seems to be in very good shape. All the rubber and plastic trim looks nearly brand new, the only wear on the car is just some standard wear on the seats. It drives great, accelerates smooth, no clunking from suspension, really seems to be solid. Just to be safe though, I'm going to take it to a Porsche mechanic and have them check it all out, even though the dealer assured me that they did and everything checked out okay. (we all know how trustworthy dealerships are though). It has the original owners manual and a service record book that seemed to come with the car, and some records for oil changes about every 2k miles up to 1981, if I remember correctly, but nothing other than that. But like I said, I'm going to have it fully checked out just to make sure it's all kosher.
Also, I'm definitely planning, next paycheck to buy the turbo lower valve covers and the valve for the airbox, and thanks for the tips on the other parts. I can do most basic work on cars, I installed coilovers on my previous car (1998 BMW 3 series) without a problem, but I've never so much as touched a Porsche, so I'm a bit intimidated :-)
And today I just went for a nice long drive, just enjoying this car. I love it! And here's another picture of it.

Three Wheelin'
Those wheels look like 8s on the rear of the car. Have fun with the car and get the pop off valve and chain tensioners before anything else. Come out to meet other Porsche owners on Saturday. (Unfortunately, I'm sick so I won't make it.)

Great place to drive topless. I was there when they just finished the first pooka (spl) in the Pali. At the time I had a MGTD. Lot of good advice in previous posts. The speed limit was 45 when I was there and gas was .45c a gallon. As I remember it the cops were meaner than guard dogs and speeding tickets were expensive. Have fun.

No, I haven't looked yet. I'll admit I kinda got excited and bought the car without checking it out as much as I should have. But hey, even if it has some problems, I do love the car and I'm happy with it, and that's all that matters to me. But to be safe, I'm taking it to a good mechanic within the next few days and having them check over it.

Welcome!
I sure hope your PPI (now, post) comes out OK......big, big gamble not having one (pre) done (no matter how happy you are with your purchase, as it could quickly become saddening). Just ensure an independent Porsche place does the inspection. Post back with your leakdown numbers
No thorough service records? yeouch....
Bottom line (now),..ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We'll look to hear back from you as to your inspection results (mmmm?)

I know it was kinda stupid of me to buy the car like that. Well, fingers crossed. The dealer said they took it to a nearby Porsche mechanic and got it checked out and everything was good and solid, so I'm hoping they were telling the truth. Monday I'm taking it to a mechanic though, and having everything checked out. I'm ordering all the recommended books as we speak, as well as the tune up kit from pelican parts and the CIS pop off valve. I want to order an aftermarket muffler, but I'm holding off for now. I'm going to order the turbo lower valve covers and those recommended parts once I take it to a mechanic (gotta make sure it doesn't already have them), and in a paycheck or so I'll get the chain tensioners. Oh, I'm also ordering a locking car cover and wheel locks, but does anyone have a recommendation for a car alarm, or other safety items? I'm kinda paranoid that someone's going to steal my car now
