Post Rock Guard Removal ??

Does anyone in the forum have any experience in removing the black stone guards that are right in front of the rear wheelwells of some 911's?
I am considering a purchase of an 87 that has the guards - (which I don't really like)and I was just wondering if they can be removed without damaging or having to repaint the car?

If they've been on for any length of time, its likely that the paint under the guards will not match the rest of the car, which I can tell you looks worse than keeping the guards.

Yep - you're probably right. I was just wondering if they are adhesive attached or stud mounted. My 944 has the clear guards - which are what I preferred.

Thanks!

Rock guards should come off with a moderate amount of heat from a heat gun. They are held on with an adhesive, no studs. If you take them off and the paint looks horrible you can always slap on a new set for $35...

I pulled mine off with a hair drier and some bug and tar remover. It was a long process, but I didnt like the look of the guards, so it was worth it.
