Post '87 Carrera and Oil on the Exhaust Pipe

I looking for a '84 or later Carrera. I saw one the other day with about 80,000 miles. OK shape, but was concerned when I saw that there was an obvious oil stain creeping 'up' the chrome on the exhaust outlet.

Is this normal, or is a sign of bad things to come, and not worth doing a PPI on??

Many thanks

Harry, I certainly wouldn't use the description of possible trouble that you gave to "nix" the idea of purchasing said vehicle.

Give it a thorough lookover, unless half-way through you decide it's a P.O.S.

If you personally find it to be a decent vehicle, in the kind of cosmetic shape that you desire, certainly go the PPI route and talk to the mechanic about what he's looking for. A Carrera 3.2 with 80K miles <may> be in need of valve guides and whatnot...but I've seen them make it MUCH farther without needing them. Seems it's a toss-up between the spin of a roulette wheel and how the previous owner maintained the vehicle.

Good luck with your 911 hunting!
