Post seperating the tranny from the engine???

I have a 1977 911S with a 2.7 . I removed the engine/tranny and now I want to seperate the two. I have removed all of the bolts that hold the two units together as well as the starter has been removed.

I did not remove the clutch arm or any of the springs (helper or pedal play) under the assy. I tried to seperate the two units and there was something still holding the two together. I read somewhere that there is three rivets that are on the ring gear that require you to screw a M6-12 screw into so that the pressure from the clutch will be released. The rivets can be accessed through the hole where the starter normaly bolts up. Then it said to go to the other side of the tranny and using a screwdriver releash the presuure on the release arm.

The last time I removed this motor , I did not remember doing all of that. I did remove the springs and release arm , and the two seperated without any problem. Am I over looking something here? Do I have to screw the m6-12 screw into the three revits to release the pressure, or can I just remove the release arm to releave the pressure? Or is neither needed, and I'm just not pulling hard enough, I did not want to over pull it and brake something!!

Help!!!!!!!!

Rick

If you didn't use the bolts-in-the-rivets trick last time and they split ok you have the later setup. This doesn't have threaded holes through the rivets and requires removal of the spring/clutch release arm from the bottom of the 'box. When you pull the box away from the engine the release bearing fork is now free to rotate and the box should come off easy.

Just remove the actuater arm. Remove the snap ring and slide the arm off, which will allow the fork to rotate freely. Should come apart easily.

Not sure if you guys saw my post regarding something quite similar. I am currently trying to remove my engine and tranny. I have been following the Pelican Parts instructions and got to the section regarding the clutch cable and other clutch related parts. I pulled off the circlip and removed the small lever arm. The instructions then say to remove the main assembly arm. It should slide right off. No luck, I tried pulling to no prevail. Any suggestions, and why does this need to come off anyway? It a 915 Tranny on 77 911 Carrera 3.0 (ROW).
Thanks.

Now that I am looking at a diagram provided above. I notice another clip holding the other side of the Main assembly arm on. I'll try pulling this and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks.
