Hello Lads, I have a question on a 1975 911 S. Coupe white/tan. Dash is not good and the old guy painted the trunk black......hmmmmm. They sent a bunch of pix and it looks very straight and the interior looks good enough. Car is in a very dry climate. I would like your opinions please on value. He is under the impression that it is a 12.5k car, I on the other hand think something quite the opposite. Car is another state. Do not hold anything back. Regards
Mr. Bray, what more can I provide you? The guy claims it runs well but I am not certain what well means. Mileage is not an issue to me unless the seller wants to brag and ask a ton-o' money. He, the owner is a retired guy and doesn't work on Porsches, I think he bought it from a friend. They do not live close to a big city.
Mileage is exactly what I was getting at.............Does the price include a recent rebuild or will that fall on you to do? You could easily pay more for hidden troubles than the $12.5K price. IE: head studs, valve guides, cam tensioners, rust under that nice black paint in the trunk, brakes, bearings, fuel tank/pump/lines, and this is the short list......you asked me not to hold anything back. I think that year car is one that most guys run from, unless you get the cute 14 inch cookie cutters to go with it.
before you spend a dime on it get Pete's book.

I know what you mean. Oh' I live Mr. Zimmermans book and have several copies from different years. I suppose it was just a general question cuz no smog is required in Cal. and I have been thinking of building a fake Carrera Porsche hot rod.
As Mr. Bray suggests, the difference between that car at 6K and that car at 12K is whether the motor and trans have been rebuilt (and how well those rebuilds were done). I wouldn't spend top dollar on a car you plan to tear up.

So many of these "whats the car worth" topics come and go like night and day. There are sooooo many dif unanswered questions to be able to give a good guesstimate. Definitely sounds like an under 10k car from your post.
When I was looking at cars I found that most cars that were "for sale" were not half the car that they were talked up to be. 1 out of 10/15 cars are worth asking prices.

It was all those little other details that combined to make up the real hit on my bank account. By the end of the project, $3,500 was basically a rounding error.
Jack's point about rust is critical (flatsix's too)... some cars, the chassis is almost totaled by rust - start tapping the undercarriage & a few hours later, you've got a fine pile of iron oxide - & no car left... & that's just the part you can SEE. others, the chassis is so solid that the drivetrain, susp & interior is almost moot - at the right price. then there is "seller perception mgmt"... some are deluded, some are ignorant, & some are liars. upshot: can't make accurate evaluations over the internet.
