Strange you would be leaking out of 930 covers.
And those other places as well especially with 15w-50. That's about as thick as you could go per the bulletin above. Usually Dino doesn't stop leaks one they have started. Maybe some research about which oils swell seals the most. That may solve it. Wierd that it would leak so early, but I do see where the engine would be clean if you have been runing Syn. Seems there would be a little metal on the plug of the newly rebuilt engine. you were good to wait a bit before switching to Mobil 1. Just too slippery for a new motor.

Bill; I did intend to use Swepco as the place I go had a full stock the week before. I drained, went to the store, and they were sold out with a 2 week wait Had to do something. Bought Mobile 1 and then did a few hours of research and questions before putting it. It seems it will be Ok. It is extra slippery, but I hear not too bad. It is a bit notchier, but I like the shifting just fine. I am still looking into what it will do to the brass?? parts inside...I posted a questions on rennlist before filling, and although Swepco was the choice, I was informed that Mobil 1 was ok to use.

After purchasing my 88' Coupe this past January, my mechanics(they race P-Cars)suggested that I use
Chevron Supreme 20W-50. I don't track my car. After three thousand miles(with a total of 109,000)using the Chevron, I haven't had any problems.

Thanks for all the feedback so far everyone.

A couple more questions....are there any synthetics that are less prone to leak than Mobil 1, or is this just the nature of the beast?

What about the dino/syn blends? Is there significant advantage over straight dino to justify the price, and are they leak prone as well?

I'm leaning towards going back to dino, but I sure would like the to have the extra protection of synthetic in both cold and the 100+ Texas summers.

Thanks, everyone for the feedback.

I decided to go back to dino during my valve adjustment service ...Castrol 20-50 which was what I used before Mobil 1. So far no more leakage....for now, at least.

I'd rather live with a little less protection(and not much less with 3K change intervals) than have my beautiful motor leaking like a seive onto my heat exchangers as well as my garage floor.

Unless someone invents a synthetic with the same leak resistance as dino oil, I don't plan to use this stuff again.

With many rebuilds under my belt, I seriously doubt that the synthetic oil is your problem. Mobil 1 oil is a great oil, I have run this in many new street and race engines. I personally think this is the rebuilders responsibility.
