Front Wheel Clearance
I know a lot of people will be running a 225 section front tyre on 7x16 (or 944 offset 8x16) Fuchs wheels. Most will have the fender lip rolled and some negative camber. I already have the fender lip rolled, however, prior to fitting 225/50s (on 7x16 Fuchs rims) on the front of my car I wondered if people could tell me what kind of negative camber they have needed in order to avoid rubbing. I currently have nearly 1 degree negative - a sort of street/DE halfway house alignment set up.
I am aware that all cars tend to vary but a straw pole would be useful. If the consensus is that I need to run 2-3 degrees negative I will just stick with the 205/55s.

I have an '84 911 Carrera. I run 225/50x16 on 7x16 Fuchs in the front. My front fenders have been rolled and I have about 1.2 degrees negative camber on the front wheels. Ride height is about 24.5 inches from top of fender openings to the floor.
I do not have any tire rubbing. In addition, my front end is pretty stiff with Bilstein Sports and 22MM torsion bars.
My experience is that it's difficult to get 2-3 degrees negative camber on the front with your stock suspension. YMMV.

I had 225’s on 7x17 wheels with rolled lips and –1.5 camber. It was lowered quite a bit and I had a few problems. I raised it up to 24.5 in front and no longer had problems. I now have the same setup on a different ’86 911, only a have more negative camber and everything seems fine.

Thanks Bruce and Red 911, this was exactly what I was looking for. Good point about the 2-3 degrees negative camber - I should have engageed my brain before typing that!

I just spoke to my mechanic re: 225's on 7x16 Fuchs up front. He told me that those could be used w/o having to roll the fenders. True or Crazy?
My ride height will be somewhere around 25".
The topic came up b/c I was looking for the best track/street tire. Kuhmo's seem to be the tire of choice but don't come in the 205x55x16 size. Any other comments?

I have 225 50 16's on my front. I did not roll my fenders but I will say that I have noticed some rub on the sidewall of the tire...and I am fairly confident it occurs when in a turn or a dip in the road. You can almost feel it.

All, I run Fikse 17x8's up front with 225/45 with no problem. I have 1 deg neg camber and the car has been lowered etc. The fender lips are rolled in front and I am running SRP 23mm swaybars front and rear.

Richard, like Bruce, my SC had Bilstein Sport shocks and 22mm torsion bars up front. I ran 1.5deg negative camber all the way around, the rear may have been closer to 2deg?
This proved to be a decent street setup and an awesome, although maybe not ideal, track setup...definitely somewhere in between - as you will hear that a lot of 911 owners run 2deg all the way around.
In my current 911, a 1991 C2, which is considerably heavier than an SC, I run 2deg. in the rear and 1.75 up front...the rear camber is not enough to optimize the track tires that I use...so I may eventually dial in more...the fronts could probably utilize the contact patch better at 2deg.
After 3 DEs, I just have the tires "flipped" on the rims...as to wear the other edge.
As far as street use, I have 12k miles on my car since purchase and don't seem to have any radical wear on my street tires.
With your fenderlips rolled, I don't think you'll have much problem with rubbing anyway, 1deg camber should be fine...even if fairly lowered.
JPhillips, under normal driving conditions, you may not have any rubbing, but when you get to the track...I can GUARANTEE the Driver's side will rub, as the car is "off center" - all 911s are, about 1/4" to the driver's side. I rolled my driver's side, shod my SC with Hoosiers and went to the track, as I got faster, the passenger side started to rub...good thing I brought my trusty baseball bat with me to the track!
