I have narrowed down my search to two.
Is there any pitfalls I should know about one or the other?
What are 0-60 stats for these cars?

84 has the chain tensioner and rubber clutch issues resolved( although in a higher mileage, well maintained '80 there should be a record of These things having been replaced).
3.2 motor in the '84 shows 15 more HP and a little more torque. I don't know how noticeable this is in driving.
IMHO,0-60 is not a meaningful stat in evaluating 911's.To achieve fastest 0-60 in most cars a high revving, drop clutch start is required- you cannot afford to do this in a 911.
The excellence of the 911 shows in mid and high speed accelleration.
My '86 has a nominal 0-60 of 6.5(84 probably the same.). This car replaced my '94 6spd Vette (5.5 sec.). The Porsche feels much faster and more controllable in the 40-100+ "passing" range than the Vette ever did.

JandJ,
I suggest going for the car that is in better condition. The '84 Carrera should only be about half a second quicker 0-60, according to the old road tests. Over 100, however, the Carrera's advantage is more noticeable. Otherwise, the driving experience of the two cars is very similar. I had a similar decision to make when I bought my first 911 in '94. I chose the '81 SC because it was in beautiful shape, and I love it.
