how much does a 3.2 from an 86' carrera weigh? (no tranny)
Shipped a complete 86 engine recently and with a pallet based crate, 550#
That includes exhaust, a/c compressor, clutch/ flywheel and ecu wiring. Basically, everything as dropped from car.
Pallet and crate were probably 40# of that.
Funny because a 3.0 usually ships at around 450#

Group911: Makes sense, I have publications that list an '82/83 SC engine as 190kg (419 lbs) and an '86 Carrera engine as 219 kg (483 lbs). Porsche has a history of being vague regarding stats such as this, but if one looks hard enough and long enough most historical info can still be found. However, I've never seen in print what "engine weight" includes, but I think that it's safe to assume that the engine is probably complete with intake, exhaust, alternator, electrics, and perhaps even a flywheel. It's highly doubtful that the weight includes A/C components.

Porsche saw it fit to increase the recommended cold rear tire pressure from 34 to 36 PSI from the SC to the 3.2 Carrera, so there must be some sort of weight increase. I have taken out plenty of both types of engine, and it is hard to tell of there is any difference while it is on a jack, but I have always read and heard the 3.2 is heavier.
