Fan Blower
I have a 84 Carrera and I was checking out my fan/blower in the front of the car. The blower housing is cracked and broken and I will eventually replace it. But my question is; how exactly does this fit. It looks like if it is mounted the battery will not fit. Or maybe the PO put in the wrong blow, trying to make it work. Check out the photos and let me know if you guys have any idea on the subject.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Want to drop 25 lbs or so, ditch that HUGE boat anchor of a battery ! I remember when I replaced my battery (it had a Porsche label, and I think it was a huge interstate similar to yours) with a red top Optima and I was delighted at how small it was by comparison, not to mention the weight. Your's is crammed in there, and I can see why you might have a clearance issue with the condensor fan. I've also removed my fan (when I ditched the a/c), but you need to fuse that sucker before you attempt to use it to be safe. They are notorious for burning up 911s, so search the archives for that issue. Good luck and hope this helps...

Although your car is speced to fit this battery and has the correct tie down for it you do have options even if you do not want to splurge for the optima. Take your battery out and you will see another tie down bolt hole further back to fit a smaller interstate. I can't remember the group number but I am sure someone will chime in with it in a few minutes.
Good luck

Those fan housings will crack and break apart over time, so it's not unusual to hear that the housing and/or motor might need to be replaced.
My car had a huge battery in it as well, but I like having all that battery power. That said, if I needed a new battery, I'd choose Oddysey or Optima instead.

Forgot to mention that it needed a new, slightly longer ground cable, which I got from NAPA. The end attached to the car was hard to get off because the windshield washer feed tube was stretched tight over it, but I did it at -10 F. at night with a headlamp!

By the way, I went to the Chicago Motorcycle Show this past Sunday. There was a dealer there who sells both Optima & Odyssey & Powermaster batteries. Not sure if these are good prices, but I have a price sheet that describes the following:
OPTIMA 500CCA $158.95
OPTIMA 650CCA $176.95
OPTIMA 750CCA $191.95
OPTIMA 900CCA $232.95
ODYSSEY 535CCA $112.50
ODYSSEY 680CCA $121.20
ODYSSEY 925CCA $165.45
ODYSSEY 1200CCA $178.40
ODYSSEY 1500CCA $225.95
ODYSSEY 2150CCA $330.70
Let me know if anyone wants the price sheet (based out of Illinois)

I guess it's not on their web page - perhaps because of shipping issues but they have it in store. Hopefully there is one near you or I would call the 800 number and see if you can order it.

Murphy, when is the big day?
Isn't the Optima just a private label Interstate? Interstate is a customer of mine and I keep seeing them on display in the lobby at all the So Cal Distribution centers. May be wrong, but I'm perty sure.

That is indeed the correct size battery as originally equipped in the 3.2 Carreras. It is a very tight fit in there, and if you are not careful you can damage the condenser blower motor. Many customers insist on keeping the same size battery as stock so I have put tons of these in and it can be a bit of a pain. Since you are in SoCal and I doubt will be cranking the engine in subzero weather, you can downsize to the MTP-91 from Interstate which is the same size as the OE battery in SC and older 911s and will fit right in with the same factory hold-down bracket you should have now; otherwise you can do an Optima or something like that.
However, Optima batteries are not what they once were, and not worth the money IMHO. Ever since Johnson Controls took over em they don't last nearly as long as the old ones did. That same company owns Interstate too, but they still seem pretty good, we sell Interstate and they generally last 5 years or so like any other maintenance-free battery does and have a good warranty. Also it is tempting to buy cheap batteries at Costco, but if you check the date codes, they are often a year old or more, and won't last as long.
