Default Targa Top Question

The targa top latch has two hooks which grasp the top of the windscreen. When I turn the top handles, it appears that only one hook of the two is controlled by the handle when I turn it to the left to close. However, when I turn the handle to the right both hooks open slightly wider. Is this normal functioning or are both of my top latches faulty?

Much appreciate any help out there,
John

I own a cab not a targa but I think it's the same on both cars. the left handle controls the left latch and the right handle controls the right latch. Do you have two handles? My manual cab has two handles, one for each side.

pull on the left handle to remove it and insert it into the right hole. It is connected like a 1/4 inch drive socket and pops right out.

Hirsch, my 84 Targa does the same thing. Not sure if it normal but I haven't had any trouble with it for the 2 years i've owned the car.

I have a targa and mine operates as yours does. I think one of the two latches acts as a safety not unllike the hood. When you turn the handles it will pop but you need to go that little extra to release the spring catch to allow it to come out.
I think it is perfectly normal.

Just make sure you secure both latches before driving. Surprisingly for it's weight but the targa top can act as quite a good kite given enough speed. I found out the hard way.

Was that you Mat ? I remember last year some guy commenting it came flying out at speed ... I just couldn't remember who it was ? besides the obvious danger, these things are real expensive to fix.
