Post lowering the seat height

I have a 77 Euro coupe with a sunroof,
as I see others have mentioned the interior roof height is low, has anyone modified there stock seats to a lower height?

Or how aout a smaller wheel, my legs hit the
whel while getting in, and I have not done a DE yet but I fear a stiff neck from slouching to keep my head off the roof. Any ideas?

Regards,
Rich

Rich, I have a racing seat (Sparco Evo) that just has the side rails, no sliders...and have filed small grooves in the fiberglass bottom of the seat so that it does not interfere with the allen bolts used to mount the side rails to the factory mounting holes on the chassis.

BTW, I'm exactly 6ft tall.

My plan so far is to install the racing seat when going to the track...and remove it upon returning...so far, so good, PITA factor medium.

With the Sparco sliders, that adds about 3/4-1" heigth...and originally not being able to set the seat at the lowest setting on the side mount rails was another 3/4-1" heigth...now that I have bagged the sliders and figured out how to mount the seat at the lowest possible setting - wallah!

I don't have to "slouch" down anymore when wearing a helmet!!

Get yourself a set of Porsche SC Sport Seats. On the driver side, you can have the center section where your butt goes, cut out at a trim shop and replace with a thinner (lower) seat. I had mine done this way and used velcro to hold in the thin pad for the track when I needed extra headroom (Helmet). For the street, I simply pulled out the thin seat and added the stock insert.

You can change to a snaller wheel, and there is an extension for some aftermarket wheels that brings the wheel back a bit, making for a more comfortable driving position for some.

As has been suggested, you can swap out the stock seat for a racing seat. A racing seat will run about $350 to $500, Porsche Sports seats (Leather) are going to be $800 or so, maybe more. Be that as it may, get that car to the track...too much fun indeed.

You can sit an inch or so lower to ground by lowering your car at the suspension points, but some people say this makes no difference to head room.

On my ’86, I cut out and rewelded in the seat mounting bracket a little lower. Recaro SRD’s also added a little bit of headroom. The SRD’s (or similar style) seem to be a great compromise seat for both street and DE events. Not everyone wants to compromise though.

I put on a smaller steering wheel, then later added the extension. That gave me more clearance between the wheel and my leg, so that my hands don’t hit my leg when turning. Definitely get the extension if you have this problem.

I am 6’4” and can sit in my sunroof coupe while wearing a helmet without hitting my head.
