'84 911, I was changing my brake pads, jacked the car on the passenger side and fluid started leaking from front left corner. Looked and smelled like oil. Stopped after 30 minutes and does not leak when lowered. What the heck was happening.

Looks like oil? Smells like oil? If it was coming from where you jacked, I'd say that an oil line was accidently punctured. But from the left front corner?? Seems to me a closer inspection is needed. Perhaps you'll find it's that long lost quart of oil that seeped through from the luggage area!

Front left corner is where the brake fluid reservoir drain empties out. In changing your brake pads, could you have pushed the brake caliper pistons in enough to cause an already full brake fluid reservoir to overflow? Having one side of the car jacked up may have contributed to it, which might also account for why it doesn't leak anymore when lowered.
