Post clutch -- spring vs rubber centered?

Car is used for daily driver with occ track events. Is it worth it to go with the spring centered clutch? How much noisier are they?

Chris,

I had a spring centered clutch put in my '87. The car tends to resonate more than it did before but I prefer the reliability and longevity. I guess Porsches aren't really Porsches unless they have lots of wonderful mechanical noises.

Good Luck,

Chris,

I put the Porsche/Sachs 76-77 930 disc in my car and did not notice any sort of added noise. No chatter or anything like that. I can't say i've noticed any resonance like Adrian's. That's because I didn't drive it back to back after the old-new disc change. It sat in the garage last winter while I was doing all sorts of stuff to it.

My '88's got a spring centered, has since I bought it. No problems with chattering or noise of any sort upon starting or shifting.

Chris:

You'll find that the spring-center disk is slightly louder at low speeds in gear, but these are much more durable than the rubber ones.

The rubber was used to dampen the naturally occurring low RPM gear rattle in all Porsche transmissions due to backlash. Its no worry at all but some drivers didn't like this as it can echo through the tunnel into the car.

We always use a spring center disk here as they last longer.
