I am new to this board, and I see there are a lot of questions related to older 911s which is great.

I was thinking about going with Lindsey Racing Rims 8.5 x 11 x 17, and I was thinking about going with a 235 for the front and a 315 for the rear. My question is how difficult will the steering be for the street if I went with a 255 or a 275 for the front. I would obviously use smaller spacers for both the front and rear wheels.

Everyones version of heavy or light steering will always differ. I have a 1977 911 with turbo body conversion and 18" wheels fitted. I use 85mm rear spacers and 60mm front and the steering i dont think is heavy at all and believe it or not the drives it actually very comfortable still.

That's really good to know. I think I'm going with the 17s. I'm pretty sure I'll put an 11" with a 4.5" outer rim to run a 315 on the rear, and the front I'm thinking a 8.5" with a 2.5" outer rim half running a 235 or 255. I just hope it doesn't turn into a pig to maneuver around corners, or I get too much of a crazy rub. I may get a slight rub fully extended.

This is a street car. I don't think this configuration will pose any major problems. I'm also going to lower it slightly below Euro height / Lowered to 24.25 inches front, 24 inches rear. This is similiar to Jack Olson's set-up

Any feedback or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hey there, just my $.02. I think you're on the right track, and the 17" Fuchs will look great. However, if you lower the suspension any more, it may be harder to live with everyday. You'll have to watch curbs and inclines very carefully, and the tires may rub. Good luck with the mod.

I just got 17x9x11.5 and will install them with 255/45/17 and 315/35/17 this weekends or maybe next week. If you interested to know the ride/steering, I'll let you know.

My car is a Turbo-look with 16" fuchs on the rear, with 245 tires on them, but they don't fill the wheel wells very well. Do any of you know what size fuchs and tires the Turbo-look should have on the rear?

i imagine they would be 9" wide rims on the back. but not sure about he rubber . the 930 guys will know for sure.

245/45 16 for the rears.

You may consider lowering your car...

has 8x16 listed on the window sticker with 225-50-16
and the original wheels are still whats on the car
they definately dont fill up the wheel wells. i just got some 9" with 245s im gonna try out

315/35/127 on the rear is great but 255/45/17 on the front rubs so bad. It rubs on so many things. I would get 40 serries next rount.
Note that my car is not the real turbo. It's a carrera adding fender/flare to have the turbo body wide.
BTW, nice car. Where are you in SCal?

as far as I know, the real turbo look is the same as the real turbo on this aspect. My fuch 16x7 front and 16x9 rear is the turbo option from manufacture so they should fit. I think 245/45/16 is the correct size. If your is a narrow body adding fender/flare to have the turbo look than you need adapter to push the wheels out. In this case, then it depend on your adapter size.

I just got 9 & 11 1/2" x 17 CCWs with 245/40 and 295/35 A6s on my FTL.

My car is pretty low (haven't measured it yet) and the rears are fine, but the fronts rub a little on hard turns and at full lock. I will be raising it up a bit and re-doing the toe (ride height affects toe).

275s are possible, but are really too wide for an 8 1/2" wheel. Whatever you put on front, try for a 40 series tire as opposed to a 45. Even a 245/45 is really tall for the front.

Expect to build new muscles if you parallel park a lot, otherwise steering is fine once you are rolling.

I strongly advise you get a competent shop to set ride height, corner weight and align your car once the wheels are on.

+ This is correct. Porsche did not differentiate on wheel fitment between a turbo look and an actual turbo car in those cars and fitted the 245 on 9x16 Fuchs forged rims.
