Im now 43 and my '87 911 CAB is 15 (bought in 2000). Personally, Im tired and insulted by the "mid-life crisis" comments. As an avid motorcycle rider since I was 17 and someone who grew up in TR3s and 4s it was only the lack of $$ and the start of a family that kept me from getting a sports car sooner. Does anyoner have a good response for the MLC comment? (even if it is partly true?!) - TIA.

Well, I am the one who made the first "mid life crisis" crack but it was meant as a bit of a joke. Firstly, I just turned 40 and have no crisis. That is probably due to the fact that I have accomplished as much or more in my 40 years than most could in an entire lifetime. When I was 38, however, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about being 40 and knew that I had a few goals to achive before I became "middle aged". One of them was to get a 911 which has always been a dream of mine. I indicated in my post that getting the Porsche before turning 40 was important to me in helping avoid an MLC. There are other things besides that which I had as goals such as being "mortgage free" and assorted other things. Anyway, I could ramble on all day about this subject but the bottom line is that I started from scratch and met my goals with little outside help and this is why I have no MLC.
Cheers,
Cheers,

54 and 30.
Cumulative ages of Porsches owned in the past is 189. One I definitely should have kept - 1962 Super 90 convertible, driven across the country in 1970 and sold in California for $1,250. Not even very rusty.

Not quite sure what you mean by being tire of the MLC remark.Maybe I'm missing something? I was only agreeing with CN about it not (at least with me) being one. I frankly thought his post was clever. Anyway who cares?? I just wish i could figure out how to post a pic. I'll figure it out someway!

Sorry for the (apparent) misunderstanding. When I mentioned being tired of the "mid-life crisis" (MLC) comments I meant comments from people who see me/my car - not comments made on this list or thread. It happened to me today when I emailed a photo of my family and car to an acquaintence. Her first comment was "Gee, can you say mid life crisis?" It seems that any male in the 38 - 40+ ish age range who buys a sports car (not only porsches) are "labelled" as having a MLC when in fact (as I mentioned earlier) in many cases its the personal situation / events that opened up the ability to get the car "of their dreams" and many (myself included) would have got their car sooner if it had been possible. whatever...but does anyone else find this knee-jerk response bothersome?
on a side note- Im surprised at how young many of the others are who joined in this thread - but that just may be "response bias" <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> Now I'll get off my <img src="graemlins/soapbox.gif" border="0" alt="[soapbox]" />

I'm 27, but am acustomed to hearing all types of knee-jerk reactions like that - it's usually the one about *****-size. Lucky for me, it's always been from people who have never seen my *****.
I've figured it out. It's jealousy. Either someone wants your car and cannot afford it, or they want it and don't have the nerve to buy it (they're worried about others thinking they're having a MLC, small *****, etc.) Whatever. A car is just another matterial object - like clothes, watches, home furnishings, electronics, etc. Everybody is into whatever they're into. F___'em.
I was once stopped at a red light when a car full of people in their 20's pulled up next to me. This tubby girl in the back seat asked me to roll down my window, and then asked me, "Does driving a Porsche make your dick bigger?" I responded w/ my own question, "Would going on a diet help you get some dick?" Her friends were dying of laughter.
