Default Supersport porsche??

Okay, besides the fact the body panels are all wrong for an '87 (and a multitude of other issues)... is anyone familiar with Porsche producing a Supersport?? - as described by the seller in the Q & A section at bottom.

I thought Super Sport was the name given to upgraded 911s sold in the UK?

Sounds super-fishy to me. If it's "near new" but has a "conversion done with fiberglass"???? With the 993 front and rear clip....I would stay far away. 20K for a car hacked up with glass...yuck.

I believe the supersport was the 911 "turbo look" that was originally sold in the US when the turbo wasn't available here. Either way, this isn't right.

It's a 911 with a most likely fiberglass 993 body kit as Kerry said.
I'm sure a horrific accident was the catalyst for the "upgrade"

You'd think that if this dealer "specialized" in Porsche like he claims, he would have a more accurate description of this car and not the vague and incorrect labeling of this car as a Super Sport when it might just be an '87 with a 993 body kit. A call to PCNA with the VIN to find the option codes would determine if this was at some point a M491 "Super Sport" car. This dealer shows their ignorance by answering the questions on the auction in the manner that they did.

As others have said, the Super Sport designation was used in Europe for the M491 cars.

What's up with the panel around the radio? The center console mods are interesting as well... The rims/tires could use a set of proper spacers...

I'd lay a strong wager that those fiberglass body panels are not factory. But, hey, either way, the car is super cheap.....NOT. Smells pretty fishy to me.

Default supersport

The supersport is what Porsche called the option 491 in England starting in 1986 or 1987. This is not a supersport.

That car is not an M491...it is a 993 cabrio conversion. The interior looks pretty horrid IMO with the aluminum-look trim pasted in various places, and "Carrera" stuck to the dash. I think that the way the seller answered the questions is very very questionable. Someone specifically asked if this was a panel-conversion car because of the 993 bodywork on an 87 car, and he answered that it is not, and that it is a Porsche model called a "Supersport." That statement is not in any way true. Even if you called a 491 a supersport (which I have never heard), this is a panel conversion of a 491. If that is true, than it is truly sad seeing a 491 meet its end this way! More than likely, though, it was a regular Carrera that was converted. Caveat Emptor!

Frankly I'm in shock that you guys would think a used car salesman would be up to no good. How can you be so heartless? Shame on the lot of you!

The Brits call it that way, there was a Sport (Fuchs, whale tail, stiff suspension) and a SuperSport (M491) trim. Turbolook should have the big brakes, this one doesn't.

I have been buying & selling Porsche my entire life & this car is TRULY AMAZING both Mechanically & Cosmetically. If you are looking for a WELL MAINTAINED TRUE COLLECTOR, THEN THIS IS IT!!

You know Cal, I'm with you. We should all be ashamed of ourselves by criticizing a used car dealer. All used car dealers never lie and of couse will never prey on the ignorant souls that come to buy a 911 off their lot and don't know what it really is. Of course this is a true Supersport 911 that is a limited edition and will be an instant collectible car.

We're such a bad lot of souls here on Rennlist...

Seriously, its no surpise that a car like this is at a used car lot like that. The lot owner most likely bought it dirt cheap since it's a b@stard and is now trying to just flip it for a few thousand in profit. He probably paid $12k for the dog and would flip it for $14k in a heartbeat if someone actually wanted this POS.

Probably pick it up at one of the run-thru barn auctions. It might even have one of the highly sought after salvage titles.
