Post Fire Extinguisher Mount

Can I ask where you guys mount your extinguishers and the brackets you use? I know the B-K seat bracket is popular but I have seen them mounted on the tunnel, ahead of the gear shift. I have a rollbar in the car as well. This is for a '74 Carrera.

You can get 3 hose clamps and mount the extinguisher to the rollbar. If you do this, you may want to use rubber strips (bicycle tubing works well) between the clamps and the bar so as to minimize messing up the finish. My extinguisher has two straps on it's bracket, and I mount it so the extinguisher is facing up, as opposed to facing down. I'm not sure I'd mount a bracket with only one strap on the rollbar. You might want to consider, from a safety standpoint, what would happen if the bracket strap holding the extinguisher let go. Don't use sheet metal screws to mount the bracket to the floor - I had to fail someone on a tech inspection for that recently.

The B-K mount is a bit pricey. I mounted (with small bolts - not sheet metal screws!) my extinguisher bracket to the cover over the shift coupler. It's out of the way yet convenient if needed. In your case, the choice is easy - use hose clamps to mount the bracket to the roll bar. I did it that way on all of my five SCCA showroom stock cars and never had a problem.

Here is my version of the cheapa$s fire extinguisher mount. Mine is a sheet of aluminum bent at an 90 degree angle, with holes to mount between the driver seat sliders and the seat mount rails on the floor.

It holds the extinguisher, and doubles as a roadblock to keep any crap from the back seat floor from migrating under the pedals under heavy braking.

I am planning on making it a little sturdier, with a few "L" brackets, but I think it is adequate for street use. I may just scrap this and rebuild it out of steel.

I have always used the BK Fire Extinguisher Mounts from day one...love 'em. They look classy and provide a great way to mount a FE.

I don't think they're too pricey, $69.95 is a fairly cheap upgrade for a Porsche! Considering the quality in craftsmanship and the fact that it's stainless steel...I think it's a good deal.

From time to time you'll see one on Rennlist for around $50 - I just sold one for power seats last week. I've had both versions for awhile.

You ALL have great ideas though!

Guys:
I've used the BK mount and agree it's a finely made piece. However, it interferes with seat travel too much ( IMHO) and DE instructors and passengers tend to kick it around a bit. If you have a roll bar, you might consider mounting it like I did, on the vertical leg of the main hoop on the passenger side. It is within easy reach by reaching over behind the passenger seat. I used 2 "U" bolts, using black fuel line as a slip-over insulator ( around the U-bolt) to avoid marring the surface of the bar. Very tight. This attaches the quick-release mount to the bar. When you open the passenger door, the normal street seat belt also partially covers the extringuisher to give a stealth effect. All very nice and professional looking.
