The headlight 'hangs' on the upper lip. The only thing that holds it is the bottom bolt. Give it a nudge. It's probably wedged in place by the old gasket.
Ian
The 4 side brackets do nothing. Only the bottom one is used.

After years, they're probably just "stuck." A little force should loosen them.
When installing the H4s, make sure the new gaskets are on properly. Then I found that after hanging the housing over the upper lip, it helps to apply some downward pressure to the top of the light...it will almost "pop" in to place. Also, a small flashlight so you can see if the screw hole is lined up before you try and insert and screw them in to place helps as well.

I noticed this thread because I recently had the same stuck problem. Not to thread hijack, but ......Will the EURO H-4 lights fit in my 1987 Carrera that has H-5S? I can't seem to get a straight answer on this, and dont want to spend $400+ dollars to find out I just bought something that wont fit!
Thanks!
Thanks!

The question is: What did you buy?
To upgrade an '87 H5 to H4 requires the Bosch H4 Halogen Headlamp Upgrade. The Hella H4 Halogen Headlamp Upgrade Kit on Pelican is an upgrade kit for 1986 & older.
You need:
PP # 0-301-800-101-M14 (Chrome) or 0-301-800-103-M14 (Black)
This is what it looks like:
Installed:
You can add a paintable ring on top.
Note: You also must replace the bulb socket. If you plan to use higher wattage bulbs, you should upgrade the wiring & get the Hella heavy duty H4 socket. A good source is Daniel Stern Lighting.

The Euro H4's will bolt right into the hole where the H5's were. However, unless you have a connector (as shown in on response), you will have to come up with an adapter and cut and slice them into the wiring harness since the H4 connectors is different from the H5 connector. The new seals will seem like the light won't seat, but just take your time and they will work in OK. I put a little silicone lubricant on mine and they went in very easily. If you don't have silicone, use a very light coat of oil or grease...just enough to make it glide.
