Black-out window trim
Hello listers,
I have a 1980 911SC that is mostly a track car, but I like to drive it on the street, and I take it to PCA functions and an occasional parking lot show and shine. I have re-painted the window trim several times with Rustoleum satin black. The color is fine, but it never lasts more than a year. I normally just do the door windows, but now the rear window trim is starting to peel also. How do I fix this? Is there a permanent solution that is not too expensive?
Thanks,
Don

Typicaly speaking, paint will not stick to chrome with positive results without a good prep that includes sanding and primer.
Your best bet is to remove them & do a 'proper' prep, or replace the parts with a black set.
When I back dated the rear 1/4 windows on my 84 I couldn't find a decent set of black frames. I ended up powdercoating a chrome set. They have lasted over 2 years w/o any problems (including fading, chipping, peeling, etc.)

Thanks Dan. Mine are not chrome. They are some sort of stainless that is dark, but not black. I think I'll disassemble them this winter and try a better repaint.
