Chris M,
Just noticed you are in Lexington. Are you using Stuttgart or doing the upgrades yourself? My SC spent it's entire life in Lexington.
Here are a few threads on the removal

Not a good idea to leave pump installed w/o belt driving it - sitting there statically, it'll accumulate shmutz which will reduce its lifespan.

I had mine off, got tired of r&r every 2 years for smog cert so now I leave it on. Doesn't weigh much, insignificant hp loss, no discernable (to me) difference in performance.

Chris M,
Just noticed you are in Lexington. Are you using Stuttgart or doing the upgrades yourself? My SC spent it's entire life in Lexington.
My air pump was running since the car came from California but I just removed everything in about 30 minutes. I added some little o-rings, a spacer, and a nut over the bolts that held the pump in place because oil was seeping out. I still have the double pulley installed but would like to switch it out for the single. It's a Euro so no A/C either. I did notice a difference in performance after removing it but it could also be that the emissions were set so low to pass CA smog.
I do just about everything I can myself. When I get in a pinch I take it to Danny at Paul's Foreign Auto who is Dan Puchalski's (the guy who owns Stuttgart) son. After doing all the tune up stuff and removing the air pump I had him reset the CO. Who owned your car in Lexington?
The Kentucky Region PCA (Louisville, Bowling Green, etc...) which is different from the Bluegrass Region (Lexington and just about everything north and east), has a very well-run DE program. They do at least 2 events a year at Putnam Park and they're a great group to run with.

I like my Rennshift shifter. It's a short shifter with no visible gate, but it's accuracy feels like a gated shifter. Maybe that's just my rebuilt transmission or maybe the shifter has some integrated guides.
