Post Friend's Club Sport for Sale-awesome opportunity for right buyer!

I hate to see a fellow Club Sport Owner let one go. The car is listed on the non-member classifieds. If you want a great car for DE's, track fun and overall uniqueness than this is the one for you. The owner has really tricked it out and to my knowledge is the only European Club Sport in North America.

I know that the owner uses as his daily driver and you will find nothing closer to a "pure" driving experience as tooling to work in this car.
I have driven mine for a couple of weeks in So Cal traffic and although it was a bear without the A/C and passenger sunvisor, I was always grinning ear to ear.

This car is NOT a garage queen however(kind of what mine is turning into). It looks great..love the grey linen and euro lights... AND drives even better. IF you are looking for something different...check it out!

Has anyone out there driven a Club Sport? Know of one in your area? I am trying to start a registry along with a couple of other CS owners, but we are not having much luck locating NA cars.

Club Sports are extremely rare cars. As such, they command a premium. However, my impression is that they are much more valuable left untouched. Given the fact that your friend's car is a modified, gray-market car with probably high(er) miles, I doubt he will be able to get anything close to what an unmolested N.A. Club Sport would probably bring...but that's JMO FWIW. Like you said, it will take the RIGHT buyer.

Hey "J-Rad"

Listen up fool. It is always amusing to hear someone rant about something they obviously know little or nothing about. Have you seen this car? Do you know what is involved in getting one road certified here? Obviously not.

"Gray Market" is an often tossed around term referring to a market that was created in the '80's to fill demand for 911's and other cars. Granted, most of these cars were poorly prepaired for US reg / cert.

For you to brazenly imply that my CS has been altered and "molested" is inflamitory and more importantly, DEAD WRONG.

The fact is that since the "Gray Market" era, the state of CA has left only two certified conversion centers which are allowed to preform such testing and certification, both of which are top notch. Perhaps more to the point, '89 ROW CS's already had door bars, glass, and clean enough running engines so that all that had to be changed involved the addition of a MPH speedo, Cat ( off right away ) bumper struts( invisible ), change to US lighting ( changed back to original ), addition of a center tail light ( big whoop ) and various little things like a gas cap with some nonsence written on it ( original red one back on the car ).The majority of the huge bill ($6,700), covers the cost of testing and certification. The engine had just had a fresh 35K mi ( KM equivilent ) service done by Roock Racing in Germany, and thats exactly how it was delivered to me after the certification process was done, aside from the quickly removed Cat. Hardly altered, far from "Molested". Not to mention that ROW cars have a significant enough performance advantage for both PCA and POC to run them up one class from thier US brothers.

The truth is, aside from the center brake light, bumper struts and speedo, THIS CLUB SPORT IS EXACTLY AS IT WAS WHEN IT LEFT THE FACTORY, AND THAT IS JUST HOW IT LOOKS AND DRIVES. The factory "RS" seats, factory "Cup" steering wheel and bolt in roll bar are all ( not by accident ) designed to be easily removed, allowing the return of the original items, rendering the car back to stock, original and excellent condition.

If you feel the need to say anything else inflamitory about my car, please don't degrade this fine web board further, but instead I invite you to visit me PERSONALLY @ 2900 PCH, Torrance, CA.

Enough said.

Nice come back Mr. "T" , I mean Stewart. It sounds like you have a great car there. I am certain it will sell quickly. I am pointing a friend over to the classifieds to check out this car. Good luck with the sale.

The passion does run deep with Mr. T (good one), that is for sure!
Most of us have a tremendous amount of pride in our cars, the stories behind the aquisition and what we actually do with the cars once we buy them. I don't think most of us would spend the time we do with this board if we didn't have a lot of passion for Porsches.

Personally, I get almost as much thrill with the hunt for a new ride as I do driving. I know that flipping cars is not always the most cost effective ownership method...but it is fun!

I know that the owner of this car is truly in agony over the thought of having to sell the car.

Stewart:
I don't think that j-rad intended to diss your car. I think he has just read to many negative posts about conversions of Euro spec cars to U.S. specs. We all have read posts on this and other boards at one time or another that tell us to stay away from "gray-market" cars and that they are worth less than U.S. spec cars.

I looked at a Euro spec Carrera before I bought my 84. I chose not to buy it because of its condition, not because it was a Euro. Had the car been clean and passed a PPI I would have bought it in a heartbeat.

I agree with you. Euro (gray-market cars) tend to get a bad rap, but I bet their are some out there that were butchered during the conversion process.

Your car is pretty sweet by the way. If I was in the market, I'd have called you by now.

Question

Why does "Mr. T" choose the Pacific Porsche Dealership as a place for his "Smack Down" encounter?
Is the car in question for sale there?

What is the VIN for this beauty?

What shop did the service?

Where do you park all of your cars in Manhattan Beach? I almost never see any 3 car garages, much less room for 4 cars + a "party mobile" when I am there.

It's nice to see that you were thoughtful enough to remove the cat while using it as a daily driver in the "Big Sky" country of So. Cal. Absolutely charming.

8 canary,
I actually have a 2 car garage with 2 car parking behind that PLUS the street. The RV goes in an out of storage and the street. I live close to American Martyrs church and there is plenty of parking.

Everyone Else:
I never did understand the real meaning of "gray" market cars, but I think it is a little cleared up now. How much HP difference does taking a CAT out make?

Tangram and all,

Something about my German/Apache/Irish ancestry tends to foster strong retaliatory response.

Funny how some folks will take a limited amount of information and form negative opinions strong enough to expound upon them on a public web board such as this.

Tengram, sounds as If you have mistakenly assumed that because I drive my CS daily on the street, that that is its domain, and as such should wear a catalytic converter.

The fact is that my CS is driven in the manner intended by the Porsche Factory when it was designed and built, sans cat. It will, by the way, pass smog without it, once warm, but I am indeed guilty of cold start non compliance. Please find it in your heart to forgive me my heynous transgression. So sorry. My bad.

The reason I don't run the cat, is in fact, the same reason I drive a CS. It was, in the words of Porsche itself :"intended primarily for club level racing activities". I've worked for Porsche for over seven years, and although I've abstained from hard core "wheel to wheel" racing, though licensed to do so, for reasons involving both cost and abuse to a clean car, I teach high performance driving for part of my income, occasionally use my CS to demonstrate line and technique for my clients, and run once in a while with the POC for a Time Trial or Short Track series event. Two POC outings with my CS have resulted in two class wins ("KS" ;87-89 CSs,78-89 930 Turbos, 911RSTs, 928 S4s, C2s and C4s )along with two new lap records, in class, at WSIR and Buttonwillow. This is what it was made for, and for me, how it is best enjoyed, along with a fair ammount of canyon driving. With proper care and maintainance, along with a non-abusive driving style, all my 911s have been as nice after a few years of ownership as they were when I bought them, including my last '86 Carrera, in which I won both the POC Time Trial and Short track series Championships. The new owner and his mechanic are very pleased with both the cosmetic and mechanical condition of the car. These cars are truly incredible if cared for and driven correctly.

Fortunately for me, It looks as if I will be able to keep my CS, for a while longer at least, but I must thank you all for such a fun forum.

Although not currently for sale, any questions regarding my CS could be unbiasdly ( is that a word? ) answered by the best 911 specialists I've ever come in contact with ( and there are some good ones out there ), REDLINE SERVICE.

911s RULE.

I must be retarded, but I can't find the listing for this car. I looked in both member and non member classifieds, and have turned up nothing, and searching for Club Sport gives 160 hits

How about a link to the ad?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom, you are not retarded, I deleted the ad. I drew weary of defending the cars virtue against those who are fond of making assumptions based on other, older Euro cars which needed engine, door bar and other changes, most often done by less than top notch specialists, with less than the desired results.

I've, as a result, found a way to avoid having to sell it just yet, but I'd be happy to forward you a couple of photos if you like. Just let me know where to send them. It may be for sale at some point in the future, but I can't say for sure when or if.

Steve-
I wouldn't mind seeing some pics of your unique 911. What sort of $$ neighborhood were you thinking of?

I am glad that Stewart has decided to keep the Club Sport...selfishly of course. I have someone close by that not only completely knows what an incredible and relatively unknown car the CS is but can expound upon it's virtues with anyone that will challenge the cars greatness.

An aquaintence has a RSA that he thinks hung the moon. RSA's are great cars, but sunroof and A/C (which his car has) IMO defeat the purpose. Furthermore, he continues to bring out, incorrectly so, that the CS is not "that special" of a car. Maybe I should sic Mr. T/Stewart on him?
