Default Pulled head studs

I am looking at a 1981 SC with 64000 miles and am wondering how common are pulled head studs on this engine? If the PPE checks out can this be prevented by proper maint. or driving habits?

Thanks

Hi:

Generally speaking, these engines never pull head studs out of the case like the older magnesium-cased engines do.

These DO suffer head stud breakage caused by long-term corrosion and its very easy to find a broken one after the valve covers are removed.

The master already answered (but thank you for the nice words!)! Steve is absolutely correct, an SC with a pulled stud would be a rare event! However, the '81 SC is still in that broken head stud danger zone. The studs got much more reliable in '82, when Porsche finally started using the coated Dilavars.

I've owned my 81 SC since new. Last year I discovered I had 7 broken head studs.

Daniel Jacobs at the Hairy Dog Grrrrage in Oxford CT. Did a top end plus new rod bearings, rings, reground cams, clutch. Car ran fine before. Now it runs like cat chased by a deerhound (inside joke.)
