Question Fuel pump differences CIS

Well aftyer my minor fuse box fire I will need to replace the fuel pump on my 82 SC.

My brother has a new pump for a 77 911 he is willing to donate.

Will this work?

I did some research about it on Pelican and from what I can find the only real difference is the part number and flow rate at WOT, the pressure is the same.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...mp+differences

Thanks !

Pump should work, one of the other differences is the way the check valve is added, some are internal ( I think) and some are external. '77 is a lower capacity engine, but flow should be fine and you can tweak control pressure if needed assuming you have a gauge.

John: We had a policy at the shop to never try to make an alternate part work in place of the part called for by Porsche. It's never a good idea to start adapting items, which always seems to create new and unusual problems...

Pete,

I've decided to go with the proper fuel pump.

I do not want to run the risk of running to lean at WOT causing detonation since I have a high compression motor.

Pete,

Sorry to bring this up again, but does anyone have experince with the Walbro fuel pumps.

I did a search on Pelican BBS and did not find any negative comments.

factory Bosch FP are about the best designed and most reliable units available imo. They even work great with carbs if you have a return line.

I don't know anything about Walbro, but a friend recently went the aftermarket route due to the expense, and the wait time, to get a new pump through the dealer from Germany. 3 pumps later, the car is now running perfect - with it's new Bosch pump bought from the dealer.

John:

I've used Walbro and Facet without problems on race cars for years. Caveat: these are carbed cars and don't need the PSI CIS does. Change out every couple of years b/c are cheap ... and don't want a failure when racing.

And yes, like the others here mentioned, I replaced the fuel pump on my '76 with the correct Bosch $$$ part. I did it four or five yers ago ... these pump prices have jumped [just checked on PP for ha ha(s)].
